China Railway Construction Finishes Songchang Expressway Pile Foundations

On April 17, the Second Division of the Songchang Expressway Project (Section 01), constructed by CRCC Bridge Engineering Bureau, completed all pile foundation work, marking the project’s official entry into a new phase of bridge substructure construction.  

The Second Division of the Songchang Expressway Project spans 22.995 kilometers, encompassing 12 bridges, 51 culverts, and a total of 520 pile foundations. The final pile poured for this phase was Pile 6-3 of the Houjiayi River Bridge. As the last segment within the Second Division’s scope, the Houjiayi River Bridge is located south of Hongtushan Mountain in Huashu Town, Fusong County, Baishan City. The 326-meter-long bridge features 76 bored cast-in-place piles, with the longest reaching 26 meters and the largest diameter measuring 1.6 meters, constructed using rotary drilling techniques.  

Throughout the pile foundation process, the project strictly adhered to engineering standards and specifications. By refining deployment plans, optimizing resource allocation, and implementing rigorous on-site management, the team ensured scientifically sound construction practices. Despite challenges such as complex terrain, hard rock layers, land acquisition difficulties, stringent environmental requirements, and high flood season risks, the team successfully coordinated all phases—including drilling, hole formation, inspection, reinforced steel cage installation, and concrete pouring—to guarantee safety and quality control.  

According to the project manager, the team implemented meticulous management and value-driven practices, dynamically adjusting construction plans and overcoming extreme weather conditions to ensure timely completion.  

As a major transportation project under Jilin Province’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), the Songchang Expressway will drive economic development, social progress, cultural exchange, and rural revitalization along its route, particularly by integrating the Changbai Mountain tourism economy with regional growth.  

Currently, CRCC Bridge Engineering Bureau’s Songchang project team is steadily advancing toward full completion, with subsequent focus on substructure beam piers, column construction, and girder installation.
